Shipwreck

Waking up to complete darkness, I couldn’t remember a thing, and I had a horrible headache. As I lay there, staring at the wood ceiling, I snapped out of my daze and finally realized where I was. I was in the bottom deck of a ship. Staring at the ceiling started to get boring, so I sat up and inspected my surroundings.

Luckily, there was some sunlight coming down through the cracks of the ceiling, which enabled me to see. Most of what I saw were crates. They looked like they had fallen down the stairs from the upper deck, and almost all of it was broken and shredded to pieces. “What could have done this?” I thought.

The sound of waves was beneath me, beneath the ship, when a jolt came from the left side of the boat. Soon after, I heard the faint sounds of screaming that came from above, followed by what sounded like people falling into the water.

Wanting to know what was causing all the chaos, I stood up, and cautiously walked over to the stairs that led to the upper deck. Slowly, I climbed up the stairs, and gasped in horror when I saw what waited for me at the top. There, on the ship’s deck, lay the bodies. They weren’t just bodies, though. They were mangled up, some missing limbs, and all covered in crimson blood. Standing there, still as a statue, I wasn’t sure what to do.

I decided to try and find some land around me. Carefully, I stepped over to the side of the boat. I strained my eyes, desperate to find an escape from the nightmare I was living. Of course, I found nothing. I glanced down at the water and saw that it, too, had turned blood red.

When I stepped away from the edge, something grabbed my leg. I shrieked and became even more terrified when I looked down at the bloody hand that grasped my leg tightly. I peeked at the face that belonged to the hand. “There’s a monster in these waters,” he muttered, hardly able to speak.

“What do-” I didn’t have time to finish as he screamed in pain. I watched in horror as his face turned pale and his grip on my leg loosened. He was dead, just like all the others. My leg was slightly hurting, so I lifted it up to where I could see it. A white hand print was stained on my leg from where the poor man had been so desperately holding on to me.

Something hit the ship again. I didn’t know what it was, but it was strong enough to cause the ship to sway back and forth. It hit the ship again, and I soon realized that the monster was coming back for seconds. When it hit the third time, the ship started to rock uncontrollably, causing me to lose my balance. When I fell, I hit my head on the hardwood surface. I slowly slipped into unconsciousness, knowing that I would never see daylight again.
