General information and key indicators relevant to education

Mozambique in a nutshell     

• Its capital is Maputo – another major city: Matola
• A Portuguese-speaking country
• Can be divided into 11 provinces

The most renowned public schools, universities and other educational institutions in Maputo are the following:

• American International School of Mozambique
• Maputo International School
• Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (in Portuguese)
• Aga Khan Academy, which is set to open on 19 August 2013

Education in action  

A list of foreign NGOs actively operating in Mozambique can be found @ UNICEF. Of particular note:

• Plan International, which is a UK-based organisation;
• The Department for International Development (DFID), which is the UK Development Agency;
• Save the Children, which is an American organisation;
• The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA); and
• The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF).
